Hi everyone!

For the past number of months, Nate has been searching for a way to open doorways to other worlds. Along the way, he has collected a team of other witches, and non-magical experts in dimensional travel.

This Saturday night (6 November), Nate and his friends are going to attempt to cast a spell to break the barrier between worlds. As a result of the spell, 'doorways' will open all across Duplicity. However, no recognisable PC world will be on the other side of any of the doors, and nothing will be able to either leave or enter Duplicity through them. Instead, characters will see howling voids and terrifying landscapes on the other side. Some of the windows will show lands populated with monsters, though they won't be able to come through.

The doorways will last for a few hours, until the witches casting the spell realise what's happened and work to undo it. During that time, if any character stares into them with more than a passing glance, they will be driven temporarily insane (three or so days) on account of seeing things they were never meant to see. They will continue to see horrors around Duplicity that do not exist during that time.

Everyone involved with the spell itself will be arrested and jailed for 10 days, and Nate will lose access to magic for a month after his release. There will be a log post on 6 November for this, if anyone would like to play with the doorways opening.

Thank you!

It starts with a spell. Unless you're a part of it, you won't know it's happening. The coven congregates in the crypt of the Old Church, where they cast the spell they've been putting together for months. Magic crackles around the room, and all seems to be working as it should. Then the energy they're summoning expands outwards, rushing through the city both Up and Down.

Doorways open.

Some are at ground level. Some are in the sky, some form in the hallways of apartment buildings. They look, at first, like you might be able to step through, but in truth, they're not like doorways at all. They're more like windows, offering a view into a different place.

It's not any place you know.

Some show off foreign landscapes filled with monstrous creatures. There's something wrong with the colours; they're too bright, or too dull, or maybe there's new colours that you've never seen before at all. Others show the vast, empty expanse of voidspace. They draw your gaze in as if there's something to see, but the nothing is something in itself. The human eye was never meant to see such things. Madness awaits those who look into the windows.

It takes time for the witches to understand what they've done. Some of them may be lost to the madness themselves. Eventually, those that remain manage to break the spell. Duplicity will be left none the worse for the efforts, this time.
